HorizonLite Glazing Options
HorizonLite Skylights come standard with either insulating
glass or single glazed glass. There are several glazing
options to suit your preferences and requirements.
- Clear Tempered over Clear Laminated insulated
glass allows maximum daylighting and clear viewing.
- Bronze Tempered over Clear Laminated insulated
glass filters out some of the sun's rays therefore reducing
heat gain and glare.
- Clear Tempered over White Laminated insulating
glass allows daylighting with privacy.
- Clear Tempered over Argon Filled Low E Clear
Laminated insulating glass adds insulation
to keep summer heat out and winter warmth in while
reducing UV ray penetration.
Sun screening shades are also available on all models
when needed to increase the R value of the unit and to
keep out extreme direct sunlight. These are very attractive
pleated shades that are available in different color schemes
to match any decor.
Note: all tempered safety glass resists breakage,
while all laminated glass helps protect you and your
property from UV rays
HorizonLite Acrylic Dome/Pyramid Skylights
These come standard with either a single dome or an insulating
double dome. The acrylic comes in clear for maximum light
transmission and a clear view, bronze for reduced light
transmission, or white for maximum light transmission with
privacy.
Skylight Color
Color selection is influenced by personal preference and
a room's primary function. Clear and bronze allows direct
shafts of sunlight to enter the room; translucent white
diffuses sunlight. Diffused light is preferable for work
areas where direct sunlight is not desired. Shading devices
are also available.
Skylight Location
The location of the skylight in your home along with the
need for ventilation determines whether you select a fixed
or operable (opening) model. Bathrooms, kitchens and enclosed
patio rooms are areas that frequently require additional
ventilation. The choice of manual or electrically operable
depends on the height of your ceilings, preference and
budget. One electric operator can run multiple skylights,
remote controls can operate up to 20 skylights, and rain
sensors can be added to insure that your skylight is closed
in case of unexpected rain.
Skylight Size
The size of the skylight depends on the amount of light
required. A rule of thumb for determining skylight size
is to figure one square foot of skylight area for each
20 square feet of floor space.
